Lately bacon has been getting uber-attention. You can find it layered on just about any sandwich, as a toothpaste and ice cream flavoring, and now - as a cologne. That's right, you can entice the pups in your life with BACON!

If you are looking to put a bit of sizzle in your life, this might (not) be the thing. There's some story about a butcher on the purveyor Fargginay's website, but I just think it was created by an over zealous smoked pork fat fan. Heaven knows what the difference is between their 'Classic' and 'Gold' bacon fragrances is. "Scent by the gods" indeed.

I guess I'm just jealous. No one has come out with a 'Fresh Fried Chicken' eau de toilette.

Yeah, I know. Most of those words were way too big for the underweight lover, but I'm sure it was something like that. The Herald's Scott Levine reports F-squared as saying ". . . I’m trying to start a franchise, so this is the beginning of it.” This all began when F-squared started hustling his wings at Mama Cimino's restaurant in Vegas. That's why his partner is Nick Cimino, who chose the site in Iowa and bought the building next to the Clinton Mama Cimino's. Heck, Ol' Mama considers the Clockster like a second, but scrawnier son -albeit fried to a dark crackly crunch.

Hey, I'm not hating. I know good and well that as soon as I can reach an FFC I'll be the first one chomping down on my wing for a dolla' getting my own 'Flava of Love'. And if by some chance the Clockster brings FFC to D.C., those wings had better have Mumbo sauce (don't ask, I'll explain that D.C. thing later in another post) for the greater populace.

Now here's the real kicker - The Daily News reports that Flav has a culinary degree and restaurant experience. Back in his 'pre-Yeah Boyeeee' days he was just plain old William Drayton who cooked in the Long Island Nassau County Courthouse and actually fed somebody's children in the school system. Who da' thunk it?

Yep it's true - Hova has invested in his cousin's Fulton Street, Brooklyn organic chicken joint.
It's a family affair since his mom and sister are also investors. It's seriously too easy to come up with the jokes, so I'll leave that to Andy Campbell of the Brooklyn Paper:

I've got to admit that I could scarf down some cheese fries and jalepeno poppers with wings with FITH (Fire in the Hole) sauce. It's like my personal trifecta of junk food - Cheesy, greasy & HOT! I'll just have to add this to my list of chicken joints to investigate in NYC.

They've done it again. KFC has broken down the "low cal, cut your fat and calories" crowd and produced what every fat lover craves . . . a sandwich with meat for bread.

That's right. Double Down with two pieces of bacon and cheese smacked between your choice of new grilled or original recipe filets. Forget those killer carbs! Get down wit' da meat! And sodium . . . and fat . . . and calories. Atkins followers have got to be thrilled.

According to Yum Brands own site, this combination touts 540 calories, 32 grams of fat, and 1380 milligrams of sodium for the original version and 460, 23, 1430 for grilled. Those just might be your measurements if you make this sandwich a daily regular.

Sick as it is, would you know it? I'm dying to try it.

There Will Be Repercussions . . . UnThink The Free Chicken

KFC had to pull back on the free chicken meal last week. Didn't someone know there would be lines out the door for a free 2 piece meal with 2 sides during a recession? Long lines and inpatient freeloaders like myself caused the home of the bucket to shut down the freebies and issue rainchecks by mail (how low tech).

Mind you that this is AFTER there was a coupon for a single piece of chicken in the April 26th issue of Parade Magazine. This announced the free chicken day. Somehow that just didn't go over with a bang, even after the nonstop commercials over the weekend. It was all over the web, but I suppose this just proves that a large majority of folks aren't exactly web savvy. It also once again proves the power of the Oprah "bump".

According to Reuters:

KFC said millions of Americans had downloaded free coupons after the offer was featured on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and Web site on Tuesday, driving traffic to levels unseen in the brand's 50-year history.

Eaton (Roger,the president of KFC in the United States with the South African accent) apologized to customers for the changes to the scheme and said those who already had a coupon could get a rain check form to enable them to use it at a later date.

Don't lose hope if you are a coupon holder. You will be chickenized if you send in your raincheck by May 19th.
I still say they should have charged for the bisquit.

El Pollo Loco Puts Up Its Dukes . . . And Nobody Cares

Not that I don't love crazy a$$ chicken with cilantro sauce (mmm mmm), but last April 28th was free chicken day at the old El Pollo and the media didn't care. They should have thrown that chicken leg at Oprah.

Instead, they have issued a challenge to KFC. A 'chicken off', if you will.

Their flame grilled chicken is good, but they just don't have the thousands of outlets that gets KFC on every table. I'm in Maryland right outside DC and there are no franchises here.

Meanwhile back at the coop, @Punchjump twitpic'ed "The hottest chick I've ever seen" - a "6 pc legs and thighs. The best food value in this economy." This was of course ReTweeted by @ElPolloLocoInc

El Pollo even honored the KFC-Oprah coupon on Mother's Day, since that's they only day KFC did not honor theirs; as per their Facebook page.
